What should I expect during my first visit?

At your first visit, you can expect to meet your surgeon who will take a thorough history of your injury and perform a clinical exam where they will assess your joint. Then, working with you, they’ll develop a plan for help you get back to the things you love doing.

Are there non-surgical treatment options available for sports-related injuries?

Yes. Not all injuries require surgery, many can be treated without surgery. The non-surgical treatment options depend on the injury, but may include:

    • Physiotherapy: focused strengthening, stretching, and range of motion exercises
    • Injections: PRP to promote soft tissue healing, or corticosteroid injections to relieve pain
    • Rest and Activity Modifications: allowing the damaged tissue to heal
    • Bracing or Splints: to limit movements across a joint and promote healing

What is the typical recovery time for common sports injuries or surgeries?

The typical recovery time for common sports surgeries depends on the injury and extent of damage, but typically ranges anywhere between six months (meniscus repair surgery) to one year (anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction). Your surgeon will provide a tailored recovery plan, including physical therapy and follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing.

How do you approach rehabilitation and post-surgery care for athletes?

If we could use just one word, it would be multidisciplinary. While surgery is an important aspect in getting you back to your regular activity level, equally as important is post-operative rehabilitation. As a result, we ensure that you are connected with the best physiotherapists in our network. On top of that, we keep a close eye on you throughout your recovery – our surgery team will meet with you every 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after your surgery to check in, adjust your goals, and answer questions you have.

Do you work with insurance providers, and what payment options are available?

We accept OHIP, private insurance, or fee billing. Please contact your surgeon’s office to verify if we accept your specific insurance.
