Brent Bates

Brent BatesMD, FRCSC

Dr. Brent Bates was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He completed his undergraduate studies at Western University, followed by a Master of Science degree in Regenerative Medicine at the University of Toronto. He earned his medical degree at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, and returned home to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Toronto.

Brent is thrilled to pursue his sports medicine training with the UTOSM team. His clinical interests are in hip and knee joint preservation, with a focus on hip arthroscopy and labral reconstruction, complex knee ligament reconstruction, osteotomy and realignment procedures, and cartilage restoration.

Outside of work, Brent enjoys cycling, playing hockey, and exploring the outdoors with his wife and dog. As a former track and field athlete, he is passionate about helping patients stay active through individualized and evidence-based orthopaedic care.
