Mark was born in Toronto, and grew up near Lindsay, Ontario. He played hockey in the OHL, winning an OHL Championship with the Oshawa Generals. Mark then earned an undergraduate degree from Acadia University while playing varsity hockey for the Axemen. After graduating from Acadia he spent 3 seasons playing minor league hockey in the United States, finishing his career in South Carolina, where he met his wife Lindsay. Following his hockey career, he returned to school and obtained an MS in exercise science from the University of South Carolina. After working for a local orthopaedic surgeon for 2 years he returned to the University of South Carolina for medical school. He subsequently completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. Mark has returned to Toronto with Lindsay and their 3 children: Mason (9), Madison (7) and Liam (3). He is excited to be close to family and to share the Canadian experience with his family, especially Toronto sports. Outside of the hospital, he remains busy with his family, coaching and supporting his kid’s playing hockey, baseball and soccer. Upon completion of the UTOSM Fellowship, he hopes to find an academic position where he can combine research, clinical care and sports coverage into his practice.
